On the Common Core
BioBesides my husband and daughter, my passion in life is teaching. I received my bachelor's and master's degrees from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, and I was blessed enough to start my career at Willard Model Elementary School as a 5th grade teacher in Norfolk, as well. I moved to Delaware 3 years later to be a bit closer to family and have spent my time growing and learning in the Appoquinimink School District. In addition to teaching, I've taken on a few leadership roles in my district. I serve on my school's Student Achievement Team, Lighthouse Team for Leader in Me, and I am the ELA lead teacher in my building. A few years ago, I was asked to work with our fabulous district ELA specialist and a team of outstanding teachers to unpack the Common Core standards and create units for the 5th grade teachers in my district. I've learned so much from that experience and am so excited about joining the Master Teacher Project.
