Master Teacher lessons
Big Idea:
Living things in an ecosystem rely on a web of interdependence. These relationships can take on many forms.
Big Idea:
Animal diversity within an ecosystem is affected by many factors.
Big Idea:
Each organism is adapted (physically and/or behaviorally) to live in its habitat and to obtain the things it needs in order to survive.
Big Idea:
In order for an animal to survive, it must be able to find a suitable
habitat that provides food, water, cover, and a safe place to raise its young.
Big Idea:
The rapid decrease in population among many species means that we must put
forth more effort to ensure that these species do not go extinct. Why not get our students involved?!
Big Idea:
Each animal has a role in its ecosystem, which serves itself and others within its community.
Big Idea:
What are different land habitats?
Big Idea:
Wildlife populations are not static. They constantly fluctuate in response to a variety of stimulating and limiting factors. Populations of animals are continually changing in order to maintain equilibrium in an ecosystem.
Big Idea:
Each organism is adapted to live in its habitat and to obtain the things it needs in order to survive. The beaks, feet, and legs of most birds are adapted to eat specific things in their environment.
Big Idea:
"Gems of Biodiversity" is a great visual tool to help children grasp the idea of biodiversity of the desert. It can also be used to help the children understand relationships and as a springboard for an exercise in reasoning.
Big Idea:
By examining owl pellets, we are able to map the whereabouts of certain species, identify predator-prey relationships, and learn about the ecosystems that are suitable for owls to live and thrive.
Big Idea:
Food webs are made up of a variety of species and depend on the region in which the species lives. All food webs are made up of plants at the bottom level, which must be plentiful in order for other species to survive and thrive.
Big Idea:
Now that we have learned a little about adaptations in the past few lessons, students will expand on their knowledge of adaptations by comparing similar species to learn how they adapt to their environment.
Big Idea:
A dichotomous key is a tool that helps us determine the correct identification of a living thing.
Big Idea:
Panda bears used to the cool, damp, mountains and forests of Southwest China. Could they survive in the dry heat of the Arizona desert?
