Let the students have a blast experiencing a full BLACK FRIDAY excursion. Students will shop, and compare better buys using their understanding of calculating sales tax, and discount, to solve a performance task.

Big Idea:
Which building is the world’s tallest building? Students use ratios to convert measurements between customary and metric systems. Students apply this knowledge to word problems.

Big Idea:
How can you fix Nana’s chocolate milk? Students work on this problem over time to develop a final product that demonstrates their mathematical thinking and solution.

Big Idea:
Who is the fastest at making posters? Who is the slowest? Students learn about rates and unit rates and apply their knowledge to solve word problems.

Big Idea:
What is your resting rate? What is your active heart rate? How can you improve your heart rate? Students calculate these rates and use multiplication and division to answer rate questions.

Big Idea:
Which drink has the strongest caffeine concentration? How will you figure out this problem? What information do you need to figure this out? Students work on this problem for the first of two lessons.
