Analyze and compare two- and three-dimensional shapes, in different sizes and orientations, using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, parts (e.g., number of sides and vertices/"corners") and other attributes (e.g., having sides of equal length).
When a Line Bends...A Shape Begins is a great book to use to introduce 2-dimensional shapes. The students will be introduced to all of the basic 2-dimensional shapes and learn about the attributes of a triangle.
Two-dimensional shape and three-dimensional shapes are related! Students will use play dough to see how the two kinds of shapes are related. Students will also be able to differentiate between two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes.
