Pathway: Understanding

The IM K-5 Math curriculum materials are designed to support each student to take risks, engage in mathematical discourse, and productively struggle through problems. There are 20 math routines consistently embedded in lesson materials that can provide a scaffold to help any student to engage with and make sense of the core ideas. The instructional routines embedded in the IM lessons are designed to help all students be successful and enjoy grade level math content without a separate intervention block. In this workshop and coaching, participants will:

  • Define the key instructional routines that can help students access the math
  • Explore the routines in the context of lessons from the grade level they teach
  • Build a plan for prioritizing a particular routine that will best serve their specific students

This workshop is designed for educators who have already had a structured opportunity to explore the basics of the curriculum design and have begun teaching with the curriculum materials. Teachers should be familiar with the day-to-day experience of the curriculum in order to get the most out of “going deeper” into this kind of exploration.

  • 2 hours
  • Participants will need a computer with Internet access, as well as access to their curriculum materials

I integrate supports that enable all students to access key math concepts.
