Overview

During this interactive workshop, participants will define scaffolds versus differentiation and explore features in Newsela that support educators to differentiate content, annotate, and provide writing practice support.  Participants will experience the Newsela scaffolds and explore the BL Master Teacher Project strategies to support specific academic gaps.  Participants will have time to collaborate with colleagues and receive feedback on their individual plans before implementing the plan.

Participants will need a computer with a camera, microphone and their subscription login to Newsela.

Outcome

I can explore Newsela features and strategies to support teachers to intentionally plan for instruction to address academic gaps or challenges.

Learning Experience

Define how to leverage some of the key features in Newsela in order to support making learning more visible, develop language and discussion practices and increase rigor using the SAMR framework

Explore Newsela strategies and how to use the SAMR model to explore challenges that students might face and how to build their ownership through consistent routines
common tools that can help us unlock deeper tasks and learning process like Flipgrid, Seesaw, and PearDeck

Build a task using the Newsela feature of their choice, and align it to upcoming work for students
