Overview

This series of three 2-hour virtual workshops will provide leaders with a foundational understanding of what makes the OUR 6-8/IM 6-12 Math curriculum unique. Leaders will work together to think through the change management required by the shift to problem-based math instruction, and each participant will use design thinking to map out their own individual plans to support the success of the curriculum in their context.

Audience

This Virtual Learning Series is designed for school and district leaders working with educators who are planning to or have recently transitioned to using the OUR 6-8/IM 6-12 Math curriculum. It is also a powerful learning experience for leaders of schools who have been using the curriculum for 1-2 years and are still working toward leveraging the curriculum materials to their full potential for student learning.

Specifications

  • Three 2-hour virtual workshops are available. The number and combination of virtual workshops is flexible based on the needs of the partner, for instance a district may opt for only Workshops 1 and 2. 
  • The timing of the Virtual Workshop Series is flexible. It could be scheduled on consecutive days, or with up to a month between virtual workshops. The virtual workshops would be worthwhile at any point throughout the school year or summer.

Participants will be able to:

  • Articulate a vision for curriculum implementation
  • Understand key components of the curriculum and their implications for teaching and learning
  • Build a plan for leading the transition to the curriculum and student-centered, problem-based math teaching and learning
  • Connect teachers, students, and families to supports & resources
  • Collect and respond to data about curriculum implementation

Learning Experience

Session A: Getting Started with OUR 6-8/IM 6-12 Math as a Leader

In this session school leaders will review the goals of the OUR 6-8/IM 6-12 Math Curriculum and complete a self-assessment of their school community’s current stage of curriculum implementation.
