Research has demonstrated that phonological awareness, the ability to recognize and manipulate sounds in words, must be taught through explicit, systematic, data-driven instruction, using evidence-based practices that are responsive to student needs. In this workshop, participants will explore the research-based scope and sequence for phonological awareness instruction, as well as considerations for phonological awareness development for bidialectal, bilingual, and multilingual students. Participants will build a personal action plan for adding consistent phonological awareness instruction to their literacy program. (This workshop is Part 1 of a 2-part series.)
