Overview
Discourse in math classrooms allows students to share ideas, clarify understandings, and learn to see things from other perspectives. In this workshop, we will define mathematical discourse & its role in student-centered math, explore strategies & approaches that promote math discourse, and build a plan for promoting mathematical discourse.

- Participants will need a computer with access to Zoom, a camera, a microphone, and stable Internet connectivity
Outcome
I facilitate mathematical discourse that deepens student understanding.
Learning Experience
- Define student and teacher actions that promote discourse. Self-assess current practice by those actions.
- Explore layers of supporting math discourse by identifying examples and ideas of each. Explore lessons and strategies aligned with each layer and based on self-assessment.
- Build a plan to support student discourse in an upcoming lesson using a planning guide.
