## 5-ESS2-1

## Develop a model using an example to describe ways the geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and/or atmosphere interact.

47 Lesson(s)

#### In this lesson, students will begin creating a 3D model of the rain shadow effect. Then, students will explore the rain shadow effect by accessing several online resources.

#### In this lesson, students are provided with an overview of the four major systems on Earth. Students will then analyze how the four spheres are pictured in a photograph.

Big Idea:

#### By analyzing text and video, students will create a model of the layers of the atmosphere.

#### In this lesson, students explore the major biomes on Earth by labeling a world map and by examining how the Earth's systems affect the biomes on Earth.

#### Students work in groups to research one of the Earth's systems and then become the experts in that area to teach their peers.

#### In this lesson, students explore the plate tectonics theory by watching a video and taking notes. Then, students examine how the Earth's systems (spheres) interact when plates collide.

#### Groups will be assigned one of the climate zones to teach the class about and present the information they find.

Big Idea:

#### Students investigate weathering and erosion with hands on activities.
