As students enter the room, they will have a seat, take out their Problem of the Day (POD) sheet and begin to work on the question on the SMARTboard. The POD allows students to use MP 3 continually based on the discussions we have about the problem each day.
The target for the day is also on the SMARTboard each day when students enter the room. The target for today’s lesson is for students to simplify expressions they are given.
The previous lesson introduced students to the concept of writing a complete answer to an extended response question. Today, students will actually answer a question related to the unit we are studying. The POD will provide the basis for the classwork and the discussion.

While students are working/writing, I will walk around and answer questions and help guide students through providing feedback and identifying gaps that might exist.
To wrap up the lesson, I want to remind students of the importance of the process. It is important that students embrace the process of writing the answer. I want them to understand that expressing the answer is as valuable as calculating the answer. I will use the exit tickets to prepare for the next WIW. If they don’t understand how to add details we can look at that step again during the next WIW.
