# Factoring trinomials GFC first

Lesson 9 of 12

## Objective: SWBAT factor trinomials by factoring out a GCF first.

#### Warm-up

*10 min*

Each day, students complete a Warmup that usually consists of spiraling the previous day's material, in addition to older material. Warm-up problems also sometimes extend lessons that students have encountered before to more unfamiliar contexts.

Today's warm-up provide a "mixtape" of sorts to give kids a small amount of review daily that goes a LONG way toward retention of concepts.

Task #3 in particular is also a way to extend content. Kids have learned how to factor polynomials - can they recognize that this is necessary in an unfamiliar situation? The more "angles" from which students are able to access and be exposed to content, the stickier and deeper their understanding becomes.

#### Homework

*15 min*

Tonight's homework is designed to challenge students as we approach the end of this unit:

13 - 9 HW146 Factoring trinomials GCF first

The answers are included, so that students can assess their progress.
