Unit 13: QUADRATIC FUNCTIONS

Lesson 2 of 9

Lesson 2 of 9

## Objective: SWBAT explore how changing the coefficients of a quadratic function changes the graph.

#### Warm-up

*10 min*

Each day, students complete a Warmup that usually consists of spiraling the previous day's material, in addition to older material. Warm-up problems also sometimes extend lessons that students have encountered before to more unfamiliar contexts.

I often use a "mixtape" approach that pushes the kids to see/review multiple types of problems - the cumulative effect of which can be really powerful.

Today's warm-up both reviews the previous day and then reaches back to linear functions for an additional review.

#### Homework

*15 min*

For homework tonight I want students to think about the things that we have learned over the last couple of days. This assignment covers what we have learned so far about Quadratics:

12th Grade Math » Conic Sections

Big Idea:
After learning to write the equation of an ellipse, students design an elliptical pool table that would guarantee that even the worst player can always make a shot.
