# Practice transversals and blast from the past

Lesson 4 of 9

## Objective: SWBAT review recent topics for our mock statewide exam.

#### Warm Up

Each day, students complete a warm-up that usually consists of spiraling the previous day's material, in addition to older material. Warm-up problems also sometimes extend lessons that students have encountered before to more unfamiliar contexts. Today's warmup focuses on practice with transversals.

#### Huddle

*10 min*

For the huddle in this lesson, we go over Challenges 1 and 2 after kids have had a lot of time to review older skills. The challenge problems were problems that kids did not do well on on the last assessment, and so reviewing them is important.

For the graphing problem, I think students had difficulty handling a solution that did not have integer coordinates. I try to get them to become much more fluent with fractional coordinates as the year goes by by staging protests from the fractions (we are numbers too! :)) that state, tongue-in-cheek of course, that fractions are tired of being discriminated against. They are numbers too, and don't understand why everyone fears them, just because they look different. This graphing problem is one way to continue to increase their comfort.

For the algebra problem, many students still have difficulty working with algebraic modeling, and therefore repeated exposure to multi-step problems really helps them develop this type of thinking.
