# Equations Bingo

## Objective: SWBAT solve equations and recognize the solutions to equations.

**POD**

As students enter the room, they will have a seat, take out their **Problem of the Day** (POD) sheet and begin to work on the question on the SMARTboard. The POD allows students to use **MP 3** continually based on the discussions we have about the problem each day.

Chris saves one-fifth of his monthly income. If he saves $350, write an equation that can be used to find his monthly income?

The explore activity today is a fun activity. Students are going to play Equation Bingo. Using the list of equations, students will select equations from the list and solve them on a separate sheet of paper. Using their solutions (after they check their answers) students will put the solutions into boxes on their bingo card. As they are working on their bingo cards, students have the opportunity to ask questions and get clarification on any equations they may be unsure about. As we progress in play, I can give additional bingo cards and have students put the equation on the card and call out the answers. We can look at different varieties of the game as a way to reinforce or enrich their learning.

#### Landing

Our exit ticket today is a reinforcement of the work we did in class today. Students will write and solve an equation that represents a particular problem. As a formative assessment, I want to see if student thinking is changing from previous exit tickets. For those who may have struggled with this concept, I will be able to see if they are making progress or need some extra help. For students who are solid, this will reinforce their understanding for me.

One out of every 6 students in Jalen’s art class also takes Spanish. If 12 students in the art class take Spanish, write an equation that can be used to find the number of students (*n*) in the class. Find the number.
