Objective: SWBAT determine patterns in multiplying special cases.
Each day, students complete a Warmup that usually consists of spiraling the previous day's material, in addition to older material. Warm-up problems also sometimes extend lessons that students have encountered before to more unfamiliar contexts.

In today's warm-up, I wanted to re-focus on standards that are outside of the 8th grade common core, but part of the Algebra I standards. The tasks have progressed in difficulty over the last two days, which lends itself nicely to both review and extension as each day passes. Today, the tasks have substitution of negative numbers with exponents, always a source of mistakes for 8th graders. I like using the multiple-choice format because it allows us to examine the three "distractor" answers to uncover common mistakes and misconceptions.
