# Adding Integers Review

## Objective: Students will be able to solve real world and mathematical problems involving addition of integers.

**Opener: **As students enter the room, they will immediately pick up and begin working on the opener. Please see my instructional strategy clip for how openers work in my classroom (**Instructional Strategy - Process for openers**). This method of working and going over the opener lends itself to allow students to construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others, which is **mathematical practice 3**.

**Learning Target: **After completion of the opener, I will address the day’s learning targets to the students. In today’s lesson, the intended targets are, “I can solve real world and mathematical problems involving addition of integers.” Students will jot the learning target down in their agendas (our version of a student planner, there is a place to write the learning target for every day).

Instructional Strategy - How do table challenges work?**:** Adding Integers Review In this lesson, students will be in small groups where they are required to reason through problems (**MP 1 and 3**) without any instruction from me. Additionally, students will be expected to utilize tools such as a number line or colored chips as they see fit (**MP 5**).

Instructional Strategy - Table Discussion**:** To summarize this lesson, I will ask students to have a quick talk at their table about how they know if a number is negative given the context of a world problem. What kind of clues are in the question? I will call on two different tables to share out with the whole group based on responses I hear as I circulate.
