Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge The Elves and the Shoemaker - Section 1: Warm Up


My hope was for my students to be interested in this Fairytale.  I began with the real video of how shoes are made.  I did this to make connections with what they might already know about shoes making.  Showing videos and real items help my ELL students understand vocabulary and concepts of the lesson.  Sandwiching the story between a realistic video with an animated video of the story will help with comprehension.  The CCSS put a lot of focus on sequencing and retell for the upper grades. I can help them with those skills by sequencing fun stories in kindergarten.  My students did like this lesson.  They thought the elves were leprechauns.  All of the students could retell the basic points of the story.  YAY!

Objective: SWBAT sequence the story by drawing pictures and orally retelling the story to the class.

Big Idea: Using a first/next/last template we will sequence the story through drawings and then retell the story to our class.
