Reflection: Checks for Understanding Valentines for My Friends: Count by 10s - Section 3: Guided Practice

My entire class can rote count by 10s to one hundred, but it is important for me to know if they really understand what those numbers mean.  I designed the independent practice to be fun and a quick assessment.  After I watched the students complete the assessment, I realized that I needed to do a little more with the students.  A few of the students solely looked at the number in the tens place to put the numbers in order.  I wasn't certain if these students really understood what those skip counting numbers meant.

I think the activity sheet was a good introductory activity, but I decided it was important to do a second lesson that told me a bit more about their understanding of this concept.  I prepared a lesson for our 100th Day of School that was the next day.  I think the guided practice in this lesson will give me a little more information about my students' mastery of this concept.
