Reflection: Student Led Inquiry Comparative Literature I: Close Reading Chapter 1 in Detail - Section 3: Close Reading: Annotating and Constructing Meaning


By adding time to discuss the characterization activity, I needed to extend our close reading and critical viewing to bridge two days, from my initial plan to do one. However, I think that doing so allowed me to provide more depth--the students seemed to actively engage the text, as can be seen in the enactment video of them close reading. In our discussion, a variety of students, even those who are typically passive participants, shared their thoughts on the imagery Fitzgerald uses. As we'll be looking in depth at visuals tomorrow, I feel addressing visual imagery today built a foundation to build on as we analyze the films.
