We actually had much less time that I planned, since the superstition and Friday the 13th conversations ran long. Students had very few questions about the specific material we have studied for the test, but were more concerned about what exactly would be on it. I reviewed that it would cover "The Age of Faith":

"The World on Turtle's Back"

"Coyote and the Buffalo"

"To My Dear and Loving Husband"

"Upon the Burning of Our House"

"Huswifery", and 

"Sinners in the Hand of an Angry God."

And reminded students to examine the literary analysis terms and reading skills before each piece in the textbook. 

Students were also concerned about the format, and I let them know that the test would be a combination of multiple choice questions, and short answer requiring a paragraph response.

Lesson 1 of 4

Objective: SWBAT draw inferences from an in-class reading on "Friday the 13th" in order to propel conversation, engage and incorporate others, and clarify and challenge ideas by participating in a class discussion.

Big Idea: Is Friday the 13th your unlucky day? Students examine possible origins for the superstitions surrounding the holiday and share their own superstitions.
