There are a lot of word cards included in this activity. If you only plan to include this activity in a center, I suggest cutting the number of cards by at least half. Otherwise, students will spend the entire time sorting and never get to the sentence writing part! (I had to learn this the hard way…)

Unit 14: Skill and Strategy Practice with Fiction Texts
Lesson 5 of 14

Objective: SWBAT categorize words from a text into appropriate types of speech: nouns, adjectives, and action verbs.

Big Idea: In order to write strong sentences, students must first understand structure. Students learn to label part of speech by type and then use correctly in a complete sentence.
