Reflection: Adjustments to Practice Visualizing with Officer Buckle - Section 4: Closure


If I see that most of the students are struggling, then I model visualizing again using a different selection from the text. I become the student and hand the book to an able student who will read me the next few pages. After she reads each page, I model my thinking by saying aloud what I can picture happening. I check in with the group to see if this is becoming any clearer, then become the teacher again and ask students to do the same verbally. I read another page, stop, and ask a few students to tell me what they picture happening.

Big Idea: Students listen to a reading of "Officer Buckle and Gloria" without seeing the illustrations. They use their skills of visualization to draw and write about an event or character from the story.
