Reflection: Intervention and Extension Close Reading Day 2 with Song of the Trees - Section 1: Lesson Opener


The point of having students revise their theme is to not come up with the highest level theme possible, it is to get them to think deeper about the text details that helped them infer the theme. For example, one student who picked the theme, "People use their power to take advantage or others" revised here theme to "People use racism as form of power." This helped me see that she was thinking deeply about the details of her theme.
