Reflection: Staircase of Complexity Comparing 5th grade Favorites - Section 3: Closure

Getting caught up in the way the standards are written can be suffocating if you're not careful.  I was disregarding the importance of practice in an effort to look for texts, when writing out Venn Diagrams, because the standard is written as such.  My students benefited from the action of free thinking and fun thinking to practice creating Triple Venn Diagrams.  I was thrilled to see this and it made it all the more valuable when we used the skill of RI.5.5 the next time while comparing the actual texts.  While I keep track of the standards my students are using, I also need to give myself a break when it comes to honing in on a skill and mastering it.
