Reflection: Grappling with Complexity Source#2 Analyzing the Structure of the Parts and the Whole - Section 3: The Parts to the Whole: Sentence to Heading

I've been given a copy of the booklet How to Read a Paragraph by Dr. Richard Paul  and Dr. Linda Elder in many of the trainings I've been to for Common Core and Close Reading.

Pages 12 and 13 give us some tips on how to read paragraphs and sentences as a part of structural reading. It's a form of close reading that is used specifically for paragraphs and sentences. In structural reading, you look closely at individual sentences to see how the sentences connect to each other and how they connect ideas.

One of the sentences in this section reads, "All paragraphs within a written piece should connect to every other paragraph so that we can see logical connections between ideas." That's the quote that is behind the last part of this lesson, looking at each individual to see how the author develops and organizes the main ideas.
