Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Solving Quadratics by Factoring-Day 1 - Section 1: Launch


This is certainly the best my students have done with this lesson.  Typically, I have shown the generalization of the zero product property (ab=0) and then jumped right into factoring trinomials.  The time that I spent to develop this idea through the three slides in the launch really paid off in student understanding.  Students were able to see clearly, why the solutions for a quadratic equation make that equation equal zero.  I will certainly approach this lesson from the same perspective in future years.
