Reflection: Student Grouping Landscape Design - Section 2: Teacher Demonstration


Students double checked their calculations with their partners (Total size of Mr. Green's Backyard) when finished. This activity reminded me of the importance of student grouping. Here, two students discover that they have two different answers. Without direction from me, they begin checking all of their work together: Checking with a Partner.

Later, I conferenced with the students again: Finding a Mistake. It turned out that both partners were incorrect to begin with, but with each other's support, they both found the correct answer! 

To me, this is a true sign of real mathematicians!
