Reflection: Safety "Hey, Ya. Shake It Like a Polaroid Picture": Transforming Close Reading with Image Annotation of Poems - Section 1: Teacher to Teacher: Lesson Time Frame and Context

When we treat our classrooms as little fifedoms with hierarchies that cast teachers in the role of dictators, we may miss the opportunity to learn from our students. Over the years, I have been inspired many times by the work students do and what I learn from them. I eschew fill in the blank tasks and work to give students a safe place to experiment with their responses to literature. I often tell them to let me know if they want to take a different approach to an assignment. We're all learners and teachers of one another in my classroom.
