Reflection: Checks for Understanding Summarizing: Prove your point - Section 2: Mini-Lesson

This Guide is a great tool to use often since students can complete it fairly quickly. Although it doesn’t take much time, it requires synthesizing and looking for key ideas in a text. After using it with this lesson, I keep extra ones handy so that I can use them for re-teaching with strategy groups and review with book club groups. They also make great exit slips after reading books, whether they are read aloud or independently, to see if students were able to summarize the text.
