Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Makin' Matches: Character Trait and Evidence Memory Game - Section 1: Takin' It From the Top: Quickwrite


Any time I do a pre- lesson activity with my kiddos- quickwrite, KWL, etc, I like to let them add information they hear to the information they already know.  I give them time to think and compose their own answer and then during the discussion, I let them record information they've heard from someone else that they find important to necessary to add to their own.  This way answers become "everyone's" and not just "mine".  Allowing the students to add information and depth to their own answer as they see fit provides a safety net so they don't look like they don't know something in front of their classmates while helping them to develop an understanding of the concept being taught.
