Reflection: Routines and Procedures Connection Time: Planning Our Essay About Ruby's Variations - Section 3: Wrap It Up


In managing writing, as you well know, students work at different paces.  In addition to keeping track of the writing process through a clip system in my classroom, I also set deadlines for each part.  For instance, in this lesson, the students needed to be all finished with their cards.  If a student or students weren't finished with their cards, I had them finish at recess so they could begin the next lesson caught up with everyone else.  

Giving students a deadline is a real world application that we all have to deal with- completing work within a time constraint and I find it most helpful to keep all the students as close to the same stage in the writing process as possible.

Big Idea: Evaluating different forms of media presentations is an important skill for children to learn.
