Reflection: Joy Making The Story "Real": Film Analysis of "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" - Section 2: Welcome & Introduction: It's Bubble Gum Day!


Upon re-evaluating today's schedule, I moved the opportunity to do revisions to the following class (a Monday), as the film would take  half-an-hour on its own, and time would also need to be provided for discussion. 

Students very much "got into" the idea of determining an aspect of my personal life--even something as simple as going to a movie--demonstrating the whole effort to build community has been working so far. Students even began debating the merits of the films, and sharing plot descriptions for the students who didn't know. I was especially impressed that, for the most part, they did not start shouting over each other. Again, this building community effort seems to be working on their speaking, listening, and respect.

"Monuments Won," incidentally, but due to extenuating circumstances I was unable to go.

Objective: SWBAT analyze the representation of Peyton Farquhar's apparent escape two different mediums by viewing and thinking critically about the 1962 film of "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge", comparing and contrasting it to the text.

Big Idea: In 1964, Rod Sterling exposed American audiences to the film version of "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge." Today, students make prediction and judge how the film "holds up."
