Reflection: Real World Applications Perimeter is All Around Us! - Section 1: Warm-Up

It was important for me to create a real world problem for my students to show how perimeter applies to life. I wanted to create a pathway for students to see that math, and specifically perimeter here, connects to things we do each day.

At first I noticed that the students were discussing that the fence was too short. I did not intervene. I wanted to do the thinking, and the discussion, to come to their own conclusion.

In fact, I did have enough fence, and that would actually will have leftover fence. It was important for students to come to this conclusion in pairs before I discussed it with them as a group.
