## Reflection: Modeling Multiplying a Fraction by a Whole Number - Section 3: Closure

Some of the students started out having a difficult time writing their own equations. In the section were they matched equations, they did well because they knew how to multiply the numbers.  When they had to think of their own, some of them felt a bit unsure.  It helped the students when I reminded them that fractions are multiples of unit fractions.  They could take the unit fraction and come up with an equation to equal the fraction. By drawing models of the fraction using unit fractions, it helped the students see how many times the unit fraction repeated.  Therefore, they knew the multiplication problem by looking at the model.
