Reflection: Adjustments to Practice Learning About Labels - Section 4: Independent Practice


     If you watched the video you will see two of my students performing fairly well as they label their pictures.  Reflecting on the lesson however, I think I could have done a much better job with explicitly teaching my students how to do a close read, pick out the exact vocabulary from the text and use that vocabulary to label their pictures.  I think this would increase the rigor of this lesson.  I did teach my students how to make a general label with the activities on the Smartboard lesson, but I know that if I explicitly showed students how to highlight key information from the text and to use that key information to label their pictures, then my students would be that much stronger in this skill.
