## Reflection: Student Ownership Properties of Logarithms, Day 3 of 3 - Section 1: Sprints!

Today, when my students raced through these sprints, the first one really threw them for a loop!

On Sprints 5 & 6, I had found many of my students could get a nearly perfect score in just two minutes, with many of them finished in about half that time.  I began today's lesson with three logarithms written on the board; in each case either the base, the argument, or the value of the logarithm was replaced by x.  We took about five minutes to think through these problems, making sense of the solutions, and even discussing various strategies for thinking them through.

Then we did the first sprint.  I gave them about 2.5 minutes, and many students could barely complete half of problems, let alone complete them correctly.  Again, we discussed some strategies and I gave them all a couple of minutes to correct their mistakes and find solutions to the ones they didn't reach.

Ready or not, here we go!  The second sprint was done 2.5 minutes later, and the scores we way better!  One or two students got perfect scores, and quite a few said their score doubled from Sprint 6 to 7.  This is the kind of progress I'm looking for!
