Reflection: Adjustments to Practice What is a Circle? - Section 2: Presentation of Lesson

The PowerPoint that I have been using in these lessons I found for free on TeachersPayTeachers.  I liked the songs and chants that the teacher who created it used to help the student remember the attribute of the shapes.  Unfortunately, I ran into a problem with a the circle.  I have always taught students that a circle has 0 sides because a side is a straight line.  When I saw this song, it caught me off guard and I did a little research on the topic.  I found that some teachers and books call the one line used to create a circle a side and say a circle has one side.  Other teachers and books reserve the word side for polygons which a circle is not, so then say a circle has zero sides.  I decided to continue to teach my students that a circle has zero sides and just change the word to the song.
