Reflection: Student Led Inquiry Ten Times - Section 2: Practice


One of the underlying frameworks I feel that the common core encompasses is students obtaining knowledge through discovery.  I love to give my students the tools and scaffold the information to provide access to a discovery.   

During this portion of the lesson, I could see the light bulbs going off in the students' minds as they were literally discovering that when you multiply something by 10 x 10 x 10 it was the same as multiplying it by 1000.  They made the connection to the content on their own with little help.  It was a much more meaningful connection to content than me just telling them 10 x 10 x 10 is the same as multiplying by 1000.  Don’t ever underestimate the power of a learner.  Sometimes they just need a little time and information.
