Reflection: Lesson Planning Which witch? Homonyms and Homophones - Section 4: Quick Check


If you have time or want to have some more fun with homonyms, I would have the class copy the format that Fred Gwynn used in his books. Each student would pick a homonym, use it in an incorrect sentence, and then illustrate the mixed up/ wrong use of the word. Like the cover of The King Who Rained, they would use the same play on words. For students who are not quite understanding they might need to illustrate and practice with creating correct sentences rather than the play on words.

Objective: SWBAT identify homophones and homonyms within a story and be able to write their own sentences that use them.

Big Idea: Homonyms and homophones can be very fun when students realize what happens when you use the wrong word or when one word can be a verb and noun. This lesson explores these words and has some fun with learning them.
