Reflection: Student Grouping Informational Writing: Time to Dig In! (Day 5 of 15) - Section 5: Independent Practice

We returned to the lab three more times to do independent research. Each time, I tried to pair computer savvy students with those who were a little less experienced. That way, if they needed help and I wasn’t available, they had someone else to turn to. This proved to be incredibly helpful as I ended up being spread fairly thin. This was our first research project of the year and students needed quite a bit of support locating both acceptable sites and relevant facts. I also appreciated the fact that I had them only use the Kidtopia site when researching. It greatly cut down the number of inappropriate sites as compared with years prior. Whatever you can do to make it easier for the students and yourself the better!
