Reflection: Joy People Who Changed The World, Day 2 of 3 - Section 4: Designing The Poster

I thought my students did well with creating the bubble map and then proceeding on to making their posters. I didn't take too much time with modeling the bubble map in the previous section because my students are well versed with creating and using bubble maps. I use them continuously in my classroom and they are used extensively in our school.

One of the challenges I experienced was taking the time to gather the informational text my students needed for this project. It does take time to give my students text at their reading level. My students are reading between a first grade level and beginning third grade level. So, if you are in a similar situation, make sure you give yourself plenty of time before embarking on the lesson.

Though some ran out of time (some students will continue with their posters tomorrow and that is ok), all of my students enjoyed making their posters quite a bit. I would definitely do this again. I feel the checklist was very helpful in keeping them focused and I was happy to offer them a wide variety of people who changed the world: Dr. Seuss.

My students also seemed riveted by the video, and I am glad I used it. I can see the power of technology in offering my students a different way to learn..
