Reflection: Lesson Planning Getting Techy (Day 3): Using Technology to Showcase Mini-Research Projects - Section 2: Experience Learning


As you can see in this lesson, I've pre-selected photos for my students, organized them into folders, and shared the folders accordingly so students could have access to the photos they'd need to choose from.  In my narrative, you can see that I get a little "nervous", for lack of a better term, about letting my students jump online and start finding their own photos.  In third grade, my students are only 8 or 9, and I truly do not want to worry about exposing them to something I'd rather not expose them to, so this approach makes me comfortable in my lesson planning.  However, with that said, I do think that third graders probably could handle getting online and searching for their own images.  If there had been specific training about online safety, how to navigate through image searches, and what to do if something inappropriate is found, I think I would be more comfortable with letting my students take on this task on their own without my limitations.  If you have a sequential technology curriculum that incorporates those skills, you may be more willing and ready than I was to allow students to find images on their own!

Objective: SWBAT use technology to produce and publish writing (using keyboarding skills) as well as to interact and collaborate with others.

Big Idea: In this lesson, students will be introduced to more advanced features of Google Presentation, such as inserting pictures, to enhance the sharing of their knowledge of the inventions they have researched.
