Reflection: Lesson Planning Text Structure: Cause and Effect Part 1 - Section 1: Warm Up

A word of caution about the scoreboard feature on Tween Tribune.  This is a very useful tool.  However, I use this only as a fun, motivational part of our class.  I do allow students who go above and beyond in point earning to gain bonus points but never count this as a class grade.  As my students have different reading levels, differing access to technology and are reading many different articles, I cannot ethically count this in that way.

I can't tell you how many of my students jump on this when I have struggled all year to win them over with fiction/library books.

I am a firm believer in NOT counting every little thing students do as a grade.  I think there are many worthy endeavors that are simply learning experiences -not meant to be tied to the chair and evaluated.  In fact, I believe, most of the time, these are the ones that hook our students.
