Reflection: Real World Applications Building a Dog Kennel Days 4-6 - Section 1: Mini Lessons

This project took about 3 days longer than I expected it to take.  Throughout, I found it critical to constantly assess understanding, by listening to students explain their strategies.  I found holes each day, and that led to the next day's teaching focus.

Many students can get the "right" answer consistently, but never really know the why behind the process or how the process works. Listening to students talk, observing them at work, and looking for misconceptions rather than mistakes is our work, as teachers.

I had to fight the urge to "move along", and take the extra days to allow the students to gain their own understanding in order to apply.

If  you try this project, know that you can have license to take more days, or use less.  Each day's work will lead you to tomorrow's mini lesson.
