Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Elements of Print Ads - Section 3: Organize ideas for a print ad

I reminded students the importance of selecting a focused target audience and using techniques and claims that would specifically attract this audience.  I find students often have a difficult time recognizing that ads are not directly intended for everyone.  My classes are familiar with my daughter’s radio show.  They listen to it on the way to school in the morning, however, I tell them that advertising is not directed toward junior high students, it is aimed at women 25 – 35 years of age.  Then we talk about how they can still listen to the show and like it, but they are not the target audience.
