Reflection: Quizzes Who's Who in Padua? A Visual Quiz for Acts 1-2 of "The Taming of the Shrew" - Section 3: Working in Pairs


Certainly, evaluating a visual quiz requires a different approach than does an objective test. I give students the following grading guidelines:

A=Above and Beyond

B=Basically good but w/ minor omissions

C=Could have been better

D=Didn't care

F=Forget about it

The above originates with the Teaching That Makes Sense Website and is part of the 3P Grading Method. 

In terms of this specific visual quiz, I ask the following questions:

  • Are all the major characters identified?
  • Are the relationships among each character explained well?
  • Does the response show a thorough understanding of the acts? Here I consider omissions in terms of plot and what the characters want and how they plan to get what they want.

Of course, teachers can use a rubric but I prefer a more holistic approach to assessment.
