Reflection: Pacing Focusing on Intro Paragraphs - Section 3: It's time. Let's Write!


I was planning on six classes for this essay. Today tells me that it's going to take 8. Despite having an outline and comprehensive thesis statements, the students did not make much headway on their intro paragraphs today. I am going to have to adjust tomorrow's schedule to accommodate more time for writing, but that's fine with me. I would rather spend more time on the initial stages and read better essays in the end, than rush them and regret it.

Objective: SWBAT write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence by writing a thorough introductory paragraph for a long composition.

Big Idea: Giving ample time for questions and writing introductory paragraphs practically guarantees a good essay.
