Reflection: Student Ownership Choosing Just Right Books - Section 2: Demonstration

You can never be sure what will happen when the model student reads in front of the class. And because it is such an important part of your lesson to have a good model, I often will select 2 students even though I will only need and have time for 1. I also make sure that if the student does repeat words or have difficult time reading the “just-right” book out loud that I talk to the class about how it was easy for the student to be nervous but lets look at the good points. Remember, you can always give more suggestions as to what can go on the list of “just right” book qualities later.
