Reflection: Relevance Text Structure: Chronological Order Part 1 - Section 2: Lesson/Independent Practice


The articles selected for my powerpoint come from two books published by Scholastic. Teaching Students to Read Nonfiction and Nonfiction Passages with Graphic Organizers.  

The articles I used this year are not necessarily the ones I used last year. I selected these because I felt like they allow us to use a variety of topics that interest my students-both science and social studies material- and still be able to get at the idea of the unit.  I change the reading material to meet the needs and interests of my students. I believe that is just good teaching.  

While you are welcome to the powerpoint (which is a mixture of materials I have found over the years) be cognizant of the fact that you can easily substitute the actual reading material without much effort and it l make all the difference to your students.

Big Idea: Structure that gives the reader information as we need it, one step at a "time".
